Dartmouth Swamps Vermont Women

HANOVER, New Hampshire, November 29. THE Dartmouth women's swimming and diving team opened the 2012-13 home slate on a winning note, defeating Twin State foe, Vermont, 185-58, on Wednesday night. The win was the third straight for the Big Green over the Catamounts.

The Big Green won each of the night's events highlighted by setting a new pool record in the 400-medley relay in the first event of the night. Dartmouth dominated the race, winning with a time of 3:52.43, shattering the previous record of 3:57.64 set back in 1994. Freshman Kendese Nangle (Kingston, Jamaica), Charlotte Williams (Boca Raton, Fla.), Laura McCulloch (Durban, South Africa) and Siobhan Hengemuhle (Boulder, Colo.) teamed to best the previous record by over five seconds.

Dartmouth posted two 1-2-3 finishes in the 50 free and the 100 fly. In the 50 free freshman Nangle led the contingent with a time of 24.16 while Charlotte Kamai (Corte Madera, Calif.) and Hengemuhle took second and third place with times of 24.40 and 24.90, respectively.

The Big Green also took first through third in the 100 fly. Kendall Farnham (Severna Pak, Md.) took first place with a time of 57.66 and was followed by teammates McCulloch and Emily Holt (Louisville, Ky.) with times of 57.80 and 59.33

Freshman Olivia Samson (Clifton Park, N.Y.) was a double winner for the Big Green, taking home the 1000 free title with a time of 10:26.25 and the 500 free with a time of 5:05.51.

In the diving competition Erica Serpico (Moorestown, N.J.) swept the diving competition winning the 1-meter and 3-meter boards. Serpico took the 3-meter with at score of 285.30 and the 1-meter with a score of 274.64.

Dartmouth closed the meet with a win in the 200 free relay as well. Sasha Alcon (Fremont, Calif.) swam leadoff and was followed by Mary Van Metre (Edina, Minn.), Hengemuhle and Kamai. The quartet finished with a time of 1:37.40, just .39 seconds off of the school record.

Dartmouth has a short turnaround as they head to Providence, R.I., for the Brown Invitational Nov. 30-Dec. 2. The invitational will serve as the Ivy League dual meets between the Big Green and Brown and Princeton.
