Gettysburg Women Take Down Bryn Mawr College

BRYN MAWR, Pennsylvania, November 11. THE Gettysburg College women's swimming team kept its perfect record intact with a 131-58 victory at Bryn Mawr College on Saturday.

Gettysburg (5-0, 3-0 CC) won its 14th-consecutive dual meet with the top times in eight events on Saturday. The Bullets opened by grabbing the top-two positions in the 400 medley relay with the team of freshmen Sam Foote (Unionville, Conn./Farmington), Marie Gingher (Boalsburg, Pa./State College), and Alyssa Pepper (Livingston, N.J./Livingston) and sophomore Ellie Houser (Fort Washington, Pa./Upper Dublin) winning the event in 4:20.36.

Junior Caroline Coolidge (West Hartford, Conn./Kingswood-Oxford), sophomore Cooper Kearns (West Hartford, Conn./Miss Porter's School), and freshman Lea Candelmo (Oakland, N.J./Immaculate Heart Academy) each won two events on the afternoon. Coolidge touched the wall first both the 200 free (2:03.27) and the 200 back (2:18.92), while Kearns took top honors in the 1000 free (10:58.71) and 200 fly (2:19.33). Candelmo began her day with an exciting race against Bryn Mawr's Meredith Davis in the 200 IM as the Bullet first-year won the event by six-hundredths of a second with a time of 2:20.34. Candelmo paced a 1-2-3 Gettysburg finish in the 500 free with a mark of 5:26.24.

Davis picked up a win for Bryn Mawr in the 100 free (56.85), edging Gingher (57.02) and Houser (57.17). Houser won the 50 free (26.16) just ahead of Gingher (26.33) earlier in the day.

Senior Cheryl Olechnowicz (Alexandria, Va./West Potomac) finished runner-up in both the 1000 free (11:38.88) and the 500 free (5:41.48), while freshman Sara Bias (Denville, N.J./Morris Knolls) took second place in both the 200 free (2:08.30) and 200 fly (2:27.14).

Gettysburg returns to the home pool against Ursinus College on Saturday, Nov. 17, at 1 p.m.
