Washington State Tops Northern Arizona Women

PULLMAN, Washington, November 10. FRESHMAN Loree Olson won three events to help the Washington State swim team to a 146-116 win over Northern Arizona Friday evening at Gibb Pool. The win keeps the Cougars undefeated at home this year

After a couple of tough road trips WSU returned home looking for a win. WSU started with a statement winning the first four events of the meet. Olson stepped up for the Cougs claiming the top spot in the 1000 freestyle (10:29.86), 200 backstroke (2:02.89), and 400 IM (4:29.32).

“Loree Olson swam great,” said WSU head coach Tom Jager. “That's the toughest triple in swimming… and she was great in all of them.”

Junior Emma Johansson also shined for WSU winning two of her individual events including the 100 butterfly clocking a time of 55:64. Johansson won the 100 backstroke in 55:83 nearly three seconds over teammate Alison Mand who placed second in the event with a time of 58:05.

Other standouts of the meet were Sophomore Nicole Proulx who won the 200 freestyle (1:54.04) and a pair of WSU relays. The `A' relay comprised of Johansson, Kiana Sullenberger, Mand, and Evelina Bieleckaite touched the wall first in the 200 medley relay and the 400 free relay made up of Johansson, Jenna Bekker, Bieleckaite, and Proulx was also victorious for the Cougars.
