NCAA Names Hosts for 2014 Swimming and Diving Championships

INDIANAPOLIS, Indiana, November 1. THE NCAA yesterday named more than 70 sites that will host national championships in 2013 and 2014, with the hosts for the 2014 Division I and Division II swimming and diving meets on the list.

The men's Division I meet will be hosted by the University of Texas at Austin, while the women's meet will be held on the campus of the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis. No dates for the meets were listed in the NCAA's announcement.

The men's and women's Division II swimming and diving championships, conducted as one meet, will take place at the SPIRE Institute outside of Cleveland, Ohio, in 2014. SPIRE's selection raises some eyebrows, as the site was originally the host for the Division II meet in 2013, but complaints of SPIRE's driving distance from hotels — about 45 minutes — caused the NCAA to move the site of the meet to Birmingham, Ala., last August. The move was partially motivated by the fact that SPIRE was set to host multiple championships in 2013, and more than the swimming and diving teams were concerned about the location.

The selections were made by NCAA committees and approved by the NCAA Cabinet.
