Cristian Quintero Triples to Lead USC to Win Over N.C. State

LOS ANGELES, California, October 20. SOPHOMORE Cristian Quintero won three freestyle races to lead a strong season-opening performance as the USC men's swimming team downed visiting North Carolina State, 173-119, on Saturday.

Quintero, the Venezuelan Olympian who earned All-American honors as a freshman, swept the 100y (44.66), 200y (1:37.52) and 500y free (4:31.77). His 500y free win led a 1-2-3 finish with sophomore Chad Bobrosky a close second (4:31.88) and junior Nick Johnson third (4:33.64).

Freshman Ted Singley led a 1-2-3-4 Trojan finish in the 1000y free with a 9:18.98 while sophomore Cary Wright was second in 9:20.53.

Senior Alex Lendrum, a 2012 All-American, won the 100y back with a 48.57 and later won the 200y back in 1:45.44. Sophomore Luca Spinazzola was second (49.54) in the 100y back while junior Chase Bloch was second in the 200y back (1:46.04).

Freshman Morten Klarskov followed Lendrum's 100y back win with a win in the 100y breast (55.66) and then won the 200y breast in 1:59.01.

Senior Justin DiFederico led a 1-2-3 sweep in the 200y fly with a 1:47.90 while sophomore transfer Dakota Hodgson was second (1:48.11) and Wright was third (1:50.53). DiFederico came back to take the 400y IM (3:58.41) with junior Sean Mulroy second (4:00.47).

USC's 200y medley relay of Lendrum, Klarskov, Bloch and Quintero won the 200y medley relay in 1:28.98 while the 200y free relay of freshman Fred Abramyan, Bloch, freshman Zach Wagner and junior Jack Wagner was second (1:21.78).
