Brooks Teal Hired to Start New Swimming Program at St. Andrews in North Carolina

LAURINBURG, North Carolina, September 9. DIRECTOR of Athletics Glenn Batten has announced the hiring of Brooks Teal as the new Head Men's and Women's Swimming Coach at St. Andrews University.

Athletic Director Batten said, “We are very excited to have Brooks Teal leading our new swimming program. His wealth of experience in coaching and recruiting at the NCAA and Olympic level will help get our program on the fast track to success during their first season of competition. Brooks has everything you look for in a coach to build a winning program.”

The St. Andrews Swimming team will begin competition in the 2013-14 season.
Teal comes to St. Andrews from Clemson University (SC) where he spent the last school year as the assistant swimming coach. While at Clemson, Teal helped coach one All-American, three ACC champs, two NCAA Championship Qualifiers, and six Olympic Trial qualifiers.

Teal has 18 years of head coaching experience with success at the highest levels. Teal played a significant role in the development of three Olympians, including David Fox, 1996 gold medalist, and Cullen Jones, a 2008 gold medalist and 2012 gold and 2X silver medalist. He has also coached six conference championship teams, was a member of the USA Coaching staff, and also a University Hall of Fame coach inductee.

Teal, a Holly Springs, NC native graduated from NC St. University with a B.S. in Engineering Operations and then achieved his Masters Degree in Physical Education from East Carolina University.

Before arriving at Clemson, Teal was the Head Swimming and Diving Coach at NC St. for 11 years. While there, he coached two NCAA Champions and had two swimmers compete at the 2008 Beijing Olympics, including one gold medalist and a world record holder.

For seven years prior to being at NC State, Teal was the Head Men's Swimming and Diving coach at James Madison University where he coached six-time conference championship teams and was also enshrined into the JMU Athletics Hall of Fame.

The St. Andrews University Knights compete in the Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) as a member of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA).
