Marina Ribi Transfers From Tennessee to Florida International

MIAMI, Florida, July 16. FIU swimming & diving Head Coach Randy Horner announced the addition of Marina Ribi, a senior transfer from the University of Tennessee, to the 2012-13 squad.

“Marina is going to be a great addition to an already impressive 2012-13 signing class,” Horner said. “She brings extensive experience and leadership from her time at Tennessee and swam at some of the highest levels in the SEC. She projects to be one of our top point scorers on the team and certainly has the talent to help us reach the NCAA's.”

A season ago at Tennessee, Ribi's time of 4:16.31 in the 400 IM was an NCAA “B” cut time and was the fastest of the year on the UT team, as well as the ninth-best time ever for a Lady Vol. She also earned NCAA “B” cut times of 2:15.87 in the 200 Breaststroke and 2:01.31 in the 200 IM.

A native of Schaffhausen, Switzerland, Ribi set a Swiss record in the 400 IM at the Swiss Long Course Championships in April of 2011, breaking her previous record in the event after touching in at 4:48.38. That mark shattered her previous mark of 4:50.53 set in 2009.

The Panthers open the season at home against the University of Houston on Friday, Oct. 12, as the meet kicks off Alumni Weekend for the swimming & diving program. On Saturday, Oct. 13, FIU will hold an intra-squad alumni meet at 11:00 a.m. before cheering on the football team against Middle Tennessee in the evening in its homecoming game.
