Houston Promotes Volunteer Clif Robbins to Assistant Coach

HOUSTON, Texas, April 19. UNIVERSITY of Houston head swimming coach Augie Busch announced Clif Robbins will be joining the program as the assistant swimming coach on Thursday. Robbins was with the team the past year as the volunteer assistant.

“I'm very happy to announce Clif's hiring to our staff. His unique, well-rounded experience as a coach, athlete, and engineer will be an incredible asset to our program.”

“Clif is a talented teacher with a great eye for technique and his drive for student-athletes improvement is very evident. I have come to know him well in my time here in Houston and have been nothing but impressed with his character, passion, and desire to excel in the coaching profession. I see him making an immediate and positive impact in our program here at UH.”

Robbins brings collegiate swimming experience as he was a four-year letter winner at the University of Texas. He competed at the US Nationals three times while matriculating through UT and helped Texas sweep the Big 12 team championships all four years.

Robbins graduated from Teas in 2007 with a bachelor of science in chemical engineering.

Prior to UH, the Allen, Texas, native served as both the head swim coach and aquatics program director at the River Oaks Country Club in Houston. Robbins worked with both youth and masters level swimmers as he fielded a competitive squad who routinely qualified for Gulf Championships and Texas age Group Swimming.

“I'm very excited about accepting the assistant coach position here at the University of Houston. The athletic department as a whole has been very kind, polite, and professional. Coach Busch has been a great mentor to me the past year and I feel very lucky to continue learning from such a knowledgeable coach.

“The swimmers seem eager to learn and improve themselves with each practice. With an already successful diving program, Augie and I only see the swimming & diving team getting better and moving to the next levels of competition. We are all very excited.”

The Houston swimming & diving team is currently going through its offseason workouts with the 2012-13 season beginning next fall.
