Boise State vs. Seattle

SEATTLE, Washington, November 19. BOISE State women's swimming and diving defeated Seattle, 185-76, Saturday at the Connolly Center in Seattle. Senior Amber Boucher led the Broncos with three individual victories and a relay win. Boucher clocked the fastest time in the Mountain West in the 100-yard butterfly and added wins in the 50- and 200-yard freestyle events, including a season best in the 200.

Boise State (2-0) won 12 of the 14 events, as six different Broncos claimed individual wins.

Junior Christine Raininger improved her MW-best time in the 400-yard individual medley to win the event in 4:29.39, also setting a Connolly Center pool record. Sophomore Rachel Heaney also set a season best to finish second in the 400 individual medley.

"We had some good races today," said head coach Kristin Hill," though overall it's pretty clear we are beat up. I know we'll be much faster in Missouri in two weeks, and we are all excited about that."

The Broncos continued to get fast times and big points from their freshmen. Jessica Bottelberghe won two more events, running her season total to seven individual victories. Bottelberghe, a Washington native, led a Boise State sweep in the 200-yard butterfly and cruised to a three-second win in the 200-yard backstroke. She also finished second to Boucher in the 100 butterfly. Bottelberghe's time in the 200 butterfly was a season best.

Fellow freshman Sydney Johansen won the 100-yard backstroke and finished third in the 200 backstroke. Heather Harper led the Broncos' breaststroke crew. Harper, another Washington native, finished second in each the 100- and 200-yard races, less than half a second behind the winner in both. She also set a season best in the 50 freestyle.

Junior Jennifer Cahill guided the distance swimmers, winning the 500- and 1000-yard freestyles. Cahill won each event, taking the 500 by seven seconds and the 1000 by 13 seconds. The Broncos finished 1-2-3 in the 1000 freestyle, with freshman Emily Blasko finishing runner-up. Megan Myers, another freshman, took third in both distance events, including a season best in time in the 1000.

Senior Emily Irvin also enjoyed a strong day, swimming season bests in the 100-yard breaststroke and 100-yard butterfly races.

The Bronco relay teams continued their strong performances as the 200-yard medley and 400-yard freestyle relays remained unbeaten on the season. The meet began with Bottelberghe, Harper, Boucher and North posting a season-best time in the 200 medley, going 1:45.40 for the victory. The final event of the day saw North, Stevie Hughey, Cahill and Heaney combine for the win in the 400 freestyle.

Boise State will next be in action Dec. 1-4 at the Missouri Invitational.
