JACKSONVILLE, Florida, October 29. THE FIU swimming & diving team took home three victories Saturday in a quad meet held at the UNF Aquatic Center in Jacksonville, Fla. FIU defeated UNF, 187.00-111.00, Campbell University 190.00-98.00 and Florida A&M 248.00-17.00. In addition to taking home three team victories, the Panthers also took first in an impressive nine individual and relay races.
Sophomore Sonia Perez Arau stole the show taking first in all three events she participated in. She took the 1000-Yard Free (10:35.43), 200-Yard Backstroke (2:04.12) and the 200-Yard IM (2:08.24). Each victory ranked in the top-5 all-time in her respective events in FIU history.

Sophomore diver Sabrina Beaupre also swept her events, taking first in both the 1-meter (276.07) and the 3-meter (279.15) diving competitions. Beaupre now has three wins in 2011 and qualified for the NCAA Regional Tournament. She also took home the first SBC Diver of the Week award on Oct. 18 of this year.

In the 100-yard Breaststroke event, freshman Johanna Gustafsdottir earned his first-career first place finish with a final time of 1:00.08. FIU's Chelsie Kidd and Jenny Lee came in sixth and seventh place respectively in the event.

Junior Mariangela Macchiavello took first in the 50-yard Free (25.43) by .10 seconds over teammate, freshman Nadia Farrugia (25.53) for her first of two victories at the meet. She also took first in the 100-Yard Freestyle (54.22) event.

In the 400-Yard Freestyle Relay, the FIU team of Farrugia, Macchiavello, senior Vicnan Torres and junior Kayla Derr took first place by three seconds over a tough Osprey's team with a final time of 3:36.97.

"Overall, it was not a pretty meet but the ladies u hard and came through today," Head Coach Randy Horner said. "Sometimes you have to get the job done on the road and I feel we can really grow upon the success we had today."

The Panthers will return home for their second home match of the season on Saturday, Nov. 5 at 1:00 p.m. at the Biscayne Bay Campus Aquatic Center. FIU will face Florida Atlantic and Florida Southern in the meet.
