Big East Quad, Day Two

STORRS, Connecticut, October 29. RUTGERS swimming and diving came away from the weekend with a 3-0 mark, defeating Villanova (200-153), Georgetown (297.50-55.50) and Connecticut (204-149) at the BIG EAST Quad Meet. Patrisha Averill (Renton, Wash.) continued her success on day two, adding three more top finishes.
The Scarlet Knights open the season with a 3-0 record in conference action, surpassing last season's 1-3 mark.

"I'm proud of these women for fighting for these wins from start to finish," head coach Phil Spiniello said. "The energy and motivation of this team is great and is going to lead to some great things. We have some areas to improve upon, and hard work in front of us, but it's nice to get the season going in the right direction."

Averill touched the wall at 2:18.89 for a first-place finish in the 200 breast, followed by Emile Kaufman (Bothell, Wash.) and Taylor Zafir (Wheaton, Ill.) touching third and fourth, respectively. Kaufman also placed fourth in the 100 yard freestyle with a time of 52.35.

Rutgers took the top three finishers in the 400 IM, led by Averill's 4:27.11. Jacquelyn Ward (Berlin, N.J.) took second with a time of 4:27.25 and Zafir took third, 4:28.01.

Brianne Lindblad (Kent, Wash.), Megan Caylor (Kenmore, Wash.), and Courtney Sepich (Delran, N.J.) took the top-three spots in the 200 backstroke, touching the wall at 2:05.41, 2:05.80 and 2:06.50, respectively.

Taylor Curado (Highlands, Colo.) snagged her first top finish in an individual event this season in the 100 butterfly, touching the wall at 56.92. Ward took third, clocking in at 57.09.

RU also placed first in the 200 medley relay and the 400 freestyle relay.

In diving action, newcomers Carrisa Santora (Somers Point, N.J.) and Nicole Honey (New Hyde Park, N.Y.) took second and third in the three meter dive. Santora totaled 284.10 points, while Honey notched 262.80.

Rutgers jumps back into the pool on Friday against Wagner for its first meet of the season at the RU Aquatic Center. The one-day meet is scheduled for 4 p.m.
