Virginia Tech Quad Meet

CHRISTIANSBURG, Virginia, October 29. THE women's swimming and diving (8-0, 3-0 ACC) team took three wins today at the Christiansburg Aquatics Center with scores of 169-129 against Virginia Tech, 179-155 versus Duke and posted a 222-76 showing while facing UNC-Wilmington.
The men's team (5-1, 1-1 ACC) snatched two wins, beating the Blue Devils 177-121 and UNC-Wilmington 211.5-86.5, however they would drop their match to Virginia Tech, 182.5-117.5.

"I thought the team did well," head coach Neil Harper said. "It was a great experience to get a meet in at the pool where ACC's are, but we need to learn to be tougher on the road and fight through adversity and when things aren't going our way. We'll continue to train and do well this year."

Freshman Elizabeth Pepper had an impressive day, turning in two first places in the 100 and 200 fly. Her 200 fly time of 1:59.52 marks the third fastest swim in the event in school history and she's now the fifth Seminole to break the two minuet mark all-time. It was also a new Christiansburg Aquatic Center pool record.

The Seminoles put up a strong showing in the 200 free, sweeping the event with freshman Ginny Grams leading the way, touching the wall with a time of 1:51.24, just ahead of Pepper at 1:51.30. Senior Charlotte Broadbent would claim third, posting a 1:52.62.

Adding another first place was senior Stephanie Sarandos in the 200 back with a time of 2:01.33 and junior Caroline Smith would touch right behind her in second at 2:02.06.

Closing out the meet, the Seminoles would add another pool record to the board in the 400 free relay with a team of Oliver, Dressel, Grams and Pepper with a time of 3:26.14.

For the third straight meet, senior Mateo De Angulo would win all three of his individual races in the 1000 free at 9:22.90, the 200 free at 1:39.17 and the 500 free touching with a 4:32.76. He is now, nine for nine in first places in individual events on the season.
