Ball State vs. Evansville

EVANSVILLE, Indiana, October 22. THE Ball State women's swimming & diving team opened its 2011-12 season with a 162-138 victory versus Evansville Saturday afternoon at Roy and Mary Wyttenbach Pool.

The Cardinals scored victories in eight of the 16 events, with two different BSU swimmers collecting a pair of individual event victories.

Sophomore Bridgette Ruehl (Lowell, Ind./Lowell) added first-place efforts in the 100 breast (1:05.89) and 200 breast (2:22.56).

In her first collegiate meet, freshman Carlena Magley (Waterloo, Ind./DeKalb) tallied a win in the 50 free (24.62) and the 100 free (53.63) and also swam the final leg for the first-place 400 freestyle relay which clocked in at 3:35.44.

Other individuals scoring wins for the Cardinals were senior diver Whitney Adams (Danville, Ind./Danville) on the one-meter board (235.70) and sophomore Haley Richter (Roanoke, Ind./Columbia City) in the 100 fly (56.89). Richter also swam the first leg for the 400 freestyle relay.

Ball State opens its home schedule next weekend at Lewellen Aquatic Center with contests versus Milwaukee-Wisconsin Friday, Oct. 28 at 6 p.m. and MAC foe Bowling Green Saturday, Oct. 29 at 1 p.m.
