Florida vs. Arkansas Women

FAYETTEVILLE, Arkansas, October 21. THE University of Florida women's swimming and diving team won its second consecutive dual meet in less than a week to stand 2-0 on the season and hold the same record in conference action after it bested Arkansas, 173-125 Thursday night at the Arkansas Natatorium. The Gators still remain undefeated against the Razorbacks, holding the series record at 5-0.

"We swam really well tonight," explained head coach Gregg Troy. "It's nice to see where we're at right now, and overall, I'm pleased with the result."

The women combined to win 12 of the night's 16 events, and post seven NCAA "B" cut times, as senior Sarah Bateman (Orlando, Fla.) and sophomore Elizabeth Beisel (North Kingstown, R.I.) led the way for the Gators with two individual and relay victories a piece.

The pair teamed up to win both the first and last event of the night, winning both the 400 medley and freestyle relays. To open the meet, Bateman and Beisel swam with Natasha Fung (Edmonton, Canada) and Hilda Luthersdottir (Hafnarfjordur, Iceland) to claim the 400 medley relay title in 3:43.23. As the night came to a close, the pair then connected with Teresa Crippen (Conshohocken, Pa.) and Jamie Bohunicky (Gainesville, Fla.) to finish first in the 400 freestyle relay, clocking in at 3:24.37, a NCAA "B" cut provisional mark.

Individually, Bateman claimed both the 100 back and free titles, with NCAA "B" cut times of 54.28 and 49.82, respectively. Alana Pazevic (Mill Creek, Wash.) and Crippen followed suit to Bateman's performance in the 100 back as they finished second (56.09) and third (56.18) in the event, combining for the lone Gator sweep of the evening.

"Sarah really stood out, and performed for us very well tonight" said Troy of her two individual victories. "She did an outstanding job."

Beisel picked up her two individual victories in the 200 and 500 free. The U.S. National Team member completed the 200 free in a "B" time of 1:47.74 and claimed first in the 500 free after she clocked in at 4:49.19.

Kaitlin Frehling (St. Petersburg, Fla.) claimed her first individual victory of the 2011-12 season after she took first in the 50 free with a time of 23.76. Kirsten Smith (Cary, N.C.) accomplished the same feat when she touched the wall in 4:20.48 to finish first in the 400 individual medley competition.

Freshman Rebecca Rainer (Richmond, Va.) collected the second victory of her freshman campaign when she won the 200 breast in an NCAA "B" cut 2:15.63.

Veterans Bohunicky, Crippen and Luthersdottir each tallied individual victories for Florida in the win over Arkansas. Bohunicky proved victorious in the 1,000 free (9:55.34), Crippen out-swam the pool of competitors in the 200 back (1:58.37) while Luthersdotttir won the 100 breast in 1:02.85, a NCAA "B" mark

In the diving competition, sophomore Danielle Risley (Jacksonville, Fla.) won her second consecutive title on the one-meter boards after she collected 292.50 points. Senior teammate Kaylee Doback (Brandon, Fla.) finished fourth with 274.05 points in the same event. On the three-meter boards, Doback was the highest finisher for Florida, after she posted a score of 304.65 to finish second. Risley tallied 301.58 points of her own to finish third in the event.
