Woodward Caps Speedo Junior Championships with Win in 50 Freestyle

IRVINE, Calif., August 13. ON Friday night, she established herself as the queen of the 100-meter butterfly. For an encore, she claimed the throne in the 50 freestyle. Clocking in at 26.14, Samantha Woodward (Kerr-McGee) easily won the one-lap free at the Speedo Junior Championships, which concluded at the Woollett Aquatic Center on Saturday night. Katherine Raatz finished second in the race, as the Arizona Desert Fox athlete checked in at 26.52.

Representing the Mach 3 Flyers, Colin Lee-To bested the competition in the male version of the 50 free, as he covered the lap in 23.79. He was joined as a victor by Foxjet’s Mark Solfelt, who touched the wall first in the 200 individual medley with a time of 2:06.48. That swim was slightly quicker than the 2:06.56 of Scott Weltz (Silicon Valley).

In the female 200 I.M., Heather White (Orinda Aquatics) was fastest to the wall with a performance of 2:19.06, ahead of the 2:19.55 registered by Ashley Evans (Berkeley Aquatic Club). Triumphs in the 1,500 freestyle races were secured by Swim Pasadena’s Samantha VandenBerge (16:48.57) and Mission Viejo’s Chad LaTourette (15:40.96).
