Shanteau Triples Up at Speedo Southern Sectionals

AUBURN, Ala., USA, July 17. ALREADY the owner of triumphs in the 200 and 400 individual medley events, Eric Shanteau snared his third title at the Speedo Southern Sectionals on Sunday. Clocking 2:19.45 in the 200-meter breaststroke, Shanteau left the James E. Martin Aquatics Center, on the campus of Auburn University, with an impressive weekend.

While Shanteau tripled, James Wike completed a backstroke double when he bested the competition in the 200 back with a mark of 2:02.81. Wike narrowly edged Doug Van Wie, who produced a time of 2:03.39. In the women’s version of the event, Haley Chura hit the wall first in 2:16.88. Meanwhile, Abby MacGregor came out on top in the women’s 200 breast, as she sped 2:36.91.

Other winners from the fourth day of action were Jana Kolukanova in the women’s 50 free (56.18), Octavio Alesi in the men’s 50 free (50.52), Matt Owen in the men’s 1,500 free (15:44.10) and Macie Garrett in the women’s 1,500 free (17:09.77).
