U.S. Maccabiah Swim Team Visits Suicide Bombing Victims

By Seth R. Baron

Following a suicide bombing in Netanya, Israel earlier in the week, the U.S. Maccabiah Games swim team spent time with victims of the attack.

NETANYA, Israel, July 15. WE just returned from a hospital in Netanya and visited two girls – both 16 years old – who were victims of the suicide bombing the other day. We gave them a bunch of USA items – they were overwhelmed. For one of the girls it was the second bombing in which she had been involved. She saw a bombing about six years ago but did not get hurt.

The girls want us to come back and visit again. They will be in the hospital for two more weeks, getting their burns worked on. Both of them had walked past the bomber and were only six feet away, with their backs to the bombing, when the bomber blew himself up. They suffered very serious burns and some wounds to their ankles, the result of being bombarded with nails and bolts.

It was a very moving visit.
