Kornoelje Joins Staff at Oakland University

ROCHESTER, Mich., USA, July 7. OAKLAND University has hired Shawn Kornoelje as an assistant coach, adding 15 years of coaching experience to the program. The hiring was announced by Pete Hovland, the Oakland head coach. Kornoelje guided the United States swimmers at the Paralympic Games in 2000 (Sydney) and 2004 (Athens).

Kornoelje, a 1991 graduate of Eastern Michigan, will primarily work with the program’s distance swimmers. He most recently worked as the aquatics supervisor for West Bloomfield Community Education and as the head girls’ coach at Grosse Point South High. Hovland also added Danielle Hulick to the coaching staff, as Hulick accepted a role as a graduate assistant. Hulick enjoyed a strong collegiate career at Notre Dame, which included qualification for the NCAA Championships.

"I'm extremely excited to announce Shawn's hiring," Hovland said. "He brings a wealth of experience that transcends all levels of competitive swimming. His knowledge at both the USS club, YMCA, collegiate and high school levels, not only in Michigan, but also throughout the region and country will be a tremendous asset to me and to our program and student-athletes.”
