Dance Scoops up Academic All-America of the Year Accolades

WALTHAM, Mass., USA, June 16. SARAH Dance, a key player in Truman State’s run to the NCAA championship at the Division II level, was named ESPN The Magazine’s Academic All-America of the Year on Thursday for the College Division.

Dance heads the Academic All-America Women’s At-Large Teams, which cover the sports of swimming, diving, bowling, crew, fencing, golf, gymnastics, field hockey, ice hockey, lacrosse, rifle, skiing, tennis and water polo. The teams are selected by the College Sports Information Directors Association.

Dance, a native of Nebraska, is a three-time Academic All-American and earned 28 All-American nods for her exploits in the pool. Last season, she was a member of Truman State’s winning 400 and 800 freestyle relays at the NCAA Championships.

Here are the aquatic sports athletes who earned All-American status for their academic prowess.

College Division (First Team): Diana Betsworth (Truman State); Jill Bog (Denison); Sarah Dance (Truman State); Serena Fadel (Whitworth); Sarah Peck (Denison); Samantha White (Emory). College Division (Second Team): Biljana Cokovik (Florida Southern); Christy Cousins (Wingate); Jessica Herman (Wingate); Kate Kovenock (Connecticut College); Anne Melvin (UW-La Crosse); Jen Zuzack (Slippery Rock); College Division (Third Team): Cindy Barner (Albright); Emily Gruenhagen (Ohio Northern); Stephanie Lantz (Bentley); Katie Lohnes (Ohio Wesleyan).
