Cardinell is Awarded a Post-Grad Scholarship by NCAA

BLOOMINGTON, Ind., April 29. CASSANDRA Cardinell, a senior diver at Indiana University, has been awarded a $7,500 post-graduate scholarship from the NCAA. Cardinell is only the fifth Hoosier to win the prestigious honor and follows Audrey Geisler (cross country) and Karen Dennison (golf), who received scholarships last year.

A New York native, Cardinell capped her collegiate career with an NCAA title in the platform diving competition and finished her Indiana days as a six-time All-American. Named to USA Diving’s International Team, Cardinell will compete this summer at the World University Games in Turkey.

“Over the past five, I have really worked hard academically and athletically," Cardinell said. "It is nice to be recognized and to get some financial support to further my education. I want to continue diving competitively as well as finish my graduate degree, and this award really helps me do that without worrying about the financial side as much."

To be eligible for a post-graduate scholarship, athletes must maintain a 3.2 grade-point-average and must have performed admirably in varsity competition. The athlete is also required to behave on and off the field and must plan on pursuing academic work beyond the baccalaureate degree.
