Marshall Honored as PAC-10 Swimmer of the Meet

WALNUT CREEK, Calif., March 17. IT took nearly two weeks, but Gary Marshall received his due from the Pac-10 Conference Wednesday afternoon when the Stanford standout was named Swimmer of the Meet for the Pac-10 Championships.

As the Cardinal rolled to the team title earlier this month, Marshall won the 100 and 200 breaststroke events, taking down conference records in the process. On two occasions, Marshall broke the 100 record, eventually lowering the mark to 52.55.

In the 200 breaststroke, Marshall zipped 1:52.71, just off the American record of Brendan Hansen, the former University of Texas star. Hansen holds the American record at 1:52.62.

At the NCAA Championships next week, Marshall will be considered a favorite to win both breast disciplines.
