Burckle Busts NAG Record in 200 Free Win at SECs

GAINESVILLE, Fla., February 20. IN addition to swimming the second-fastest 200 freestyle in Florida history and the fourth-fastest ever in a conference championship meet, Gator freshman Caroline Burckle's 1:44.64, which won the Southeastern Conference title Friday evening, was also a USA Swimming 17-18 national age-group record.

Burckle was born June 24, 1986 so she won't turn 19 for another four months!

The old NAG record was also held by another rather prominent Gator, Nicole Haislett, who went 1:45.05 as an 18-year-old to win the 1991 NCAA 200 free at Indianapolis. A year later Haislett stood atop the podium in Barcelona as the Olympic 200 free gold medal was draped around her neck.

Interestingly, Burckle is a Louisville native who attended the same high school (Sacred Heart Academy) as another prominent aquatic star: Madame Butterfly herself, Mary T. Meagher.
