Northwestern Wildcats Sweep Big Ten Weekly Awards

EVANSTON, IL, January 15. FRESHMAN Andrea Hupman (Lawrenceville, Ga./Brookwood) and sophomore Leanne Dumais (Ventura, Calif./Buena) have been named Big Ten Swimmer and Diver of the Week for their performances in Northwestern's 184-167 win over No. 23 Tennessee last weekend, per university reports.

Hupman placed first in the 50 Free (23.65) and the 100 Free (50.49) and was narrowly outtouched in the 200 Free to earn second-place points for the 'Cats.

Her most impressive performance came in the 400 Free Relay — which NU needed to win to earn the victory in the meet. With the Wildcats' 'A' relay trailing after the first leg, Hupman swam a 49.76 split to give Northwestern a commanding lead it would not give up.

Dumais finished first on the 3-meter board with a score of 282.98 and second the 1-meter board with 241.80 points. Her 13 points were key to NU's victory and came against one of the strongest diving programs in the country.

This is the first sweep of the Big Ten Weekly accolades for Northwestern in the program's history.
