Miami Tops Day Two of Georgia Diving Invitational

ATHENS, GA, January 4. SENIOR Miguel Velazquez and freshman Jenna Dreyer took home first place finishes Tuesday afternoon for the University of Miami on the second day of competition at the Georgia Diving Invitational held at Gabrielsen Natatorium in Athens.

Velazquez took home first place in the 3-meter board after tallying a total score of 601.65.

Dreyer, who won the 3-meter springboard Monday afternoon, won the 1-meter event with an overall score of 292.90.

The evening session featured the annual Georgia Diving Invitational Shootout, which features the top six finalists from each event in an elimination contest, with one diver being eliminated in each of the five rounds.

Velazquez finished third in the men's 3-meter shootout behind Georgia's Chris Colwill, who won his second shootout in as many nights, and Auburn's Andrew Silvulka. Dreyer also placed third behind Purdue's Carrie McCambridge and LSU's Jessica Wantz in the women's 1-meter shootout.

The Georgia Diving Invitational will conclude Wednesday morning with the platform competition beginning at 11:00 a.m.
