1999 Collegiate Women's Water Polo Championship: USC Wins -- May 10, 1999
USC made it a sweep of the collegiate water polo titles in the 1998-99 year, as the women's team defeated Stanford 7-6 in a thrilling five-overtime sudden death championship match. Bernice Orwig was named the Tournament MVP as the Women of Troy captured their first Collegiate Women's water polo title.
The shot that ended the season belonged to USC freshman Christine Zador. It looked like the game was headed into another sudden death overtime period. Southern Cal was on their offensive possession. With the shot clock winding down, the ball was passed into two meters and Stanford crashed towards the ball. The ball was passed back out to Zador at the 10-meter mark with just under a minute left in the period and she confidently took the ball and skipped it low and into the cage.
