Boncher and Lau Share Atlantic 10 Swimmer of Week Honors for Richmond

RICHMOND, VA, November 28. RICHMOND swimming and diving's junior Brooke Boncher and freshman Anastasia Lau earned Atlantic 10 Swimming and Diving Performer and Rookie of the Week honors, respectively, as announced by the conference office and school last Monday.

Boncher, a native of West Newbury, Mass., won three individual titles over the weekend at the Terrapin Cup in College Park, Md. The junior swam the 50 free in 22.64 to break her own school record and automatically qualify for the NCAA Championships. The time also marked the second-fastest posting this season, behind Georgia's Kara Lynn Joyce, a 2004 Olympian.
Boncher went on to win the 100 fly title with a school record-breaking time of 53.67, which also set a Maryland Campus Recreation Center pool record. The automatic NCAA qualifying time marked the fastest 100 fly posting in the nation this season.

Boncher was not finished as she broke the Richmond 100 back record, an event she was swimming in for only the second time in her collegiate career, with a time of 49.79, just .01 seconds away from automatically qualifying for the NCAA's in the event.

Lau, a native of Smiths, Bermuda, teamed with sophomores Michelle Coombs and Emily Bateman and Boncher in the 200 medley relay to break a Spider record with a time of 1:44.81. She also was a part of the second-place 400 medley relay with a season-best time of 3:50.20. Lau's 100 breast split (1:05.31) in the event was the top time for a Richmond swimmer until she bettered it in the individual 100 breast race with a time of 1:04.68. She now ranks second on Richmond's all-time list in the event.
