Stanford Wins Men’s and Women’s Speedo Cup

LONG BEACH, CA, November 21. STANFORD men and Stanford women were both victorious at the UC Irvine Speedo Cup at Belmont Plaza in Long Beach.

The Stanford Cardinal men scored 1595 points at the three day meet. UC San Diego and Brigham Young had a close battle for second place as UCSD edged BYU with 1049.5 points to 1046 for BYU.

Among the more impressive swims on the men’s side were:

On the women's side, the Stanford Cardinal finished the meet with 1211.5 points for the victory, defeating the defending Speedo Cup champion Oregon State Beavers who finished in second with 1122 points.

Stanford freshman Caroline Bruce was named Female Swimmer of the Meet, and Stanford sophomore Hongzhe Sun was named Male Swimmer of the Meet.

The Cardinal dominance, both male and female, was such that they entered all their swimmers exhibition in several events after the team championship was secured.

The host Anteaters finished in fourth place for the women with 702 points. The Anteater men finished in fifth with 680 points.
