Hesen Named National Swimmer of the Week

BLOOMINGTON, IN, November 7. AFTER he helped No. 14 Indiana sweep No. 19 Texas A&M, 137-106, on Oct. 29 and SMU, 154-89, on Oct. 30, IU announced that freshman Ben Hesen garnered Collegeswimming.com National Collegiate Swimmer of the Week recognition for the week of Nov. 1.

"Ben has been making nice progress since September," Head Coach Ray Looze said. "We knew before he came in that he had a lot of natural ability. Right now, he is learning how to train. What's exciting is that he has so much more to learn. Our staff is looking forward to teaching him all of the fundamentals of the sport. When he gets to the point where he has all of those down, we will see something really special. He is just a very coachable young man."

Hesen claimed his first swimmer of the week accolade after capturing two event titles over the weekend as well as posting a personal record in the 200-yard backstroke (1:50.04). The Jeffersonville, Ind., native also swam the lead leg of a pair of second-place relay efforts against the Aggies in the 400-yard medley and 400-yard freestyle relay contests. Additionally, Hesen picked up another second-place finish against SMU in the 100-yard backstroke with a 50.73.
