Ohio Bobcat Women Win Over Kenyon, Men Fall to D-III Defending Champs

ATHENS, Ohio, November 2. THE Ohio women's and men's swimming and diving teams split a dual meet with Kenyon College this afternoon at the Ohio Aquatics Center. The Bobcat women registered a 186-113 victory while the Ohio men fell by a final of 173-107.

The Bobcats had 11 individual event winners, paced by Ilse Peterson's (Johannesburg, South Africa) two victories in the 1,000 freestyle (10:22.84) and 100 freestyle (53.85) and Emily Wylam's (Yorktown, Va.) double dip in the 100 (58.89) and 200 backstroke (2:08.99) events.

Becky McGaughey (Nicholasville, Ky.) captured the 200 freestyle (1:55.36) while Sigal Simsolo (Kibbutz Yakum, Israel) finished first in the 500 freestyle (5:09.65).

Casey Welsh (Crestwood, Ky.) finished first in the 200 butterfly (2:10.60) and Joanie Carpenter (Birmingham, Ala.) won the 50 freestyle (24.85).

Barbara De Sa (Rio De Janeiro, Brazil) rounded out the Ohio victories with a win in the 100 butterfly (59.23).

Other Bobcat winners on the diving side include Jessica Orlov (Bexley, Ohio) in the three-meter dive (232.50) and Debbie Thornbury (Orange Park, Fla.) in the one meter dive (246.52). Wylam, De Sa, Carpenter, and Michaela Hahn-Lawson (Painesville, Ohio) teamed to take the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:49.33).

The Bobcat men were able to capture just four of the events against the defending NCAA Division III national champion Lords.

Donald Jupp (Stow, Ohio) and Richard Wade (Wooster, Ohio) were each repeat winners for Ohio. Jupp captured the 50 (21.76) and 100 (48.52) freestyles while Wade took both the one (272.33) and three (278.03) meter diving events.

Luke Herlehy (Batavia, Ill.) finished second in the 200 butterfly (2:02.00) and the 500 freestyle (4:51.00). Jan Wuttig (Solon, Ohio/Solon) also finished second to Jupp in the 50 freestyle (22.06).

The Bobcat men took the top three slots in the 200 freestyle relay and finished second in the 200 medley relay.

The Bobcat men and women will be back in action next Friday when they travel to Eastern Michigan for a dual meet with the Eagles at 5 p.m.
