Miscovic Appointed ASU Associate Head Coach; Spiniello named Assistant Coach

TEMPE, Ariz., October 5. ARIZONA State University head swimming coach Michael Chasson announced on Monday his appointment of Annemarie Miskovic as associate head coach and Phil Spiniello as assistant coach.

Entering her second year at Arizona State, Miskovic has been a principal factor in recruiting for the women's team as well as coaching the individual medley and backstroke swimmers.

Spiniello, who served as the graduate assistant last season, will take a more active role with the team this season with having more on-deck responsibilities.

Miskovic has seen great success from her swimmers during her tenure with the Sun Devils. She worked with stroke and individual medley student-athletes, earning multiple berths into NCAA championship meets as well as helped coach the school-record performance in the 800m freestyle relay at last season's NCAA Championships.

"Annemarie has brought a passion for coaching and a knowledge of the academic side of ASU, that helped us this past year, and will continue to help us in the future." said Chasson. "She will continue be a strong asset to the program over the next few years."

Prior to arriving in Tempe, Miskovic spent four years at the University of Virginia where she worked primarily with the sprinters on both the men's and women's squads. She coached numerous All-Americans, conference champions and school record holders. During her four years at UVa, the Cavalier men claimed four ACC titles and the Cavalier women recoded three ACC runner-up finishes and won the conference title in 2003.

Miskovic, a native of Rijeka, Croatia, graduated with a degree in exercise science and physical education from the University of Zagreb in 1996. She went on to earn her masters degree in motor learning and development from ASU in 1998.

Spiniello came to Arizona State from Franklin and Marshall College where he was a four-year swimming letter winner and two-year captain. Spiniello came to ASU last season and served as the graduate assistant. He assists with all aspects of coaching and administrative duties that include coordinating ASU's team travel and maintaining the team's recruiting database.

"Phil did an outstanding job as a graduate assistant last year and will bring a knowledge of the program and a strong work ethic to the assistant position," Chasson said.

Spiniello also serves as a swim coach for the year-round club team, Sun Devil Aquatics, where he works with swimmers ages 13-17. Spiniello, a native of Boston, Mass., graduated with honors with a degree in history in 2003. He is currently working on his masters degree in recreation management.
