United States Water Polo, Inc. named Mario Perez, a public relations assistant for the Oakland Raiders for the past seven years, as Director of Communications. Perez will be active in the strategic planning, coordination and delivery of water polo’s publicity efforts. He will be working closely with both the men’s and women’s national teams as well as the executive director.

As the 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney, Australia approach, Perez intends to bring forth maximum visibility to the sport of water polo in the United States. In an era where amateur sports are thriving, he will be working to make water polo among the most followed sports.

As editor of “Water Polo Scoreboard,” USWP’s official publication, Perez will seek new and innovative ideas for marketing, advertising and distributing the bi-monthly magazine. In addition to the magazine and promotion of the national teams, Perez will also be charged with increasing water polo’s exposure in the televised and general publication realms.

Perez was a member of the public relations staff of the Oakland Raiders for the past seven years, handling the team’s publicity and publications. While with the Raiders he brought the Insider Magazine to profitable levels through creative marketing and advertising. In addition, he was in direct contact with both national and local television, print and radio media and was an instrumental part of the team’s community relations efforts.

Perez was recognized for his professionalism by the NFL by being selected as a member of the public relations staff for Super Bowls XXVII and XXVIII.
