Young Terrapins Shine in Pacific Age Group Championships

PACIFIC LSC, Calif. July 18 — SWIMMING in the Pacific Age Group Championships this weekend, Terrapin athlete Sean Mahoney, only 15, was a record breaker.

Mahoney moved through the preliminaries into the semi-finals at the U. S. Trials, where he finished 13th in the 200 breaststroke at the U. S. Trials at 2:18.19, after entering the meet at 2:19.69, quite an accomplishment for American mid-teen men not named Phelps.

Well, it turns out that was only a warm-up act. This weekend Mahoney dropped to 2:16.63, a time that would have been 9th at the Trials. He also went 1:04.47 in the 100 breaststroke. Both swims were Pacific 15-16 boys LSC records. Other notable swims from Terrapin Trials swimmers included:

Lauren Rogers – 57.66 100m freestyle
Laura Davis – 4:56.22 400 individual medley; 2:37.06 200 breaststroke;
1:03.09 100fly
