Aussie Olympic Team to have Final Competition this Week

By Stephen J. Thomas

BRISBANE, Australia, July 5. THE entire Aussie swim team has gathered in Brisbane for a six-day camp, which will include competing in two Grand Prix events at the Chandler Aquatic Center beginning tonight. The first of two meets this week will only involve the Olympic team of forty-two swimmers while the second on the weekend will also include other leading swimmers from around the country.

Distance king Grant Hackett will lead the charge by announcing he will swim all freestyle events from 50 to 1500 during the two meets. However, Hackett will not get a chance to match-up against world record-holder Ian Thorpe in the 400 freestyle tonight – his main rival for gold in Athens – as Thorpe has chosen not to swim his signature race tonight.

The meet amongst other things will be interesting to gauge the latest form and likely composition of the various men’s and women’s relay teams.
SwimInfo will provide daily reports on the meet this week.
