Matsuda Smashes Japanese Record in the 400m Free

FUKUOKA, Japan, May 31. TAKESHI Matsuda, a member of Japan's 2004 Olympic team smashed the Japanese record in the men's 400-meter freestyle at the West Japan Single-Age Championships on Sunday, according to Kyodo News.

Matsuda, a student at Chukyo University, slashed 1.55 seconds off the previous record set by Shunichi Fujita in July 2001 by clocking 3:48.81 at the meet held at Fukuoka prefectural swimming pool.
