Synchronized Swimming’s World Showcase Has Been Cancelled Due To Travel Conflicts

LONG BEACH, Calif, May 28. THE Synchronized Swimming’s World Showcase, a two-day exhibition of the world’s top Olympic Games synchronized swimming teams, has been removed from the Toyota Aquatics Grand Prix schedule due to conflicts with Olympic Games training and travel schedules for each team.

“While we understand the situation, we are disappointed we are not able to offer this premier event to our fans,” said Beth White, chief operating officer of the Long Beach Aquatic Festival, which includes the U.S. Olympic Team Trials – Swimming. “However, we are finalizing a plan with U.S. Synchronized Swimming to have the U.S. Team perform a demonstration event during the closing ceremonies of the U.S. Olympic Trials of Swimming, on July 14.”

“Everyone both here in the United States and the other countries worked very hard to try to put this event together,” said Terry Harper, Executive Director of U.S. Synchronized Swimming. “It is really unfortunate that we got this close, and it became apparent that logistically we couldn’t make this happen. The potential for this event stirred a tremendous amount of interest and we hope in the future circumstances will be more conducive to make an event like this happen.”

The synchronized swimming event was scheduled for June 19-20. The other aquatic events are unaffected. They will be held in the Charter All-Digital Aquatic Center, a 10,000-seat above-round temporary pool facility in downtown Long Beach.

"We are very disappointed with the cancellation of our event, but wish to thank the City of Long Beach and the organizing committee for the opportunity and the tremendous amount of effort put into the organization of such a premier event for synchronized swimming,” said Betty Hazle, President of U.S. Synchronized Swimming. “We wish them well with the other events being held during the Toyota Aquatics Grand Prix."

Patrons who purchased tickets for the Synchronized Swimming’s World Showcase will have the opportunity to trade in their tickets for the U.S. Team demonstration, upon confirmation of this event. Patrons not wanting to exchange their tickets for the July 14 th event may also have the option to receive a full refund. All ticket exchanges or refunds will be handled by the Long Beach Arena ticket box office, 300 East Ocean Ave., Long Beach, Calif., 562-436-3661.

Details about the Synchronized Swimming’s U.S. Team demonstration will be announced at a later date.
