Bucknell, Army and Navy Claim Patriot League Weekly Awards

CENTER VALLEY, Penn, February 10. BUCKNELL senior Peter Garvin (Silver Spring, Md./Our Lady of Good Counsel) and sophomore Lectie Altman (Syracuse, N.Y./Nottingham) were tabbed the Patriot League Men's and Women's Swimmer of the Week, respectively, after solid performances. Army sophomore Chelsea Haviland (Thief River Falls, Minn./Lincoln), the Women's Diver of the Week, and Navy freshman Kevin Teague (Lexington, Ky./Dunbar), the Men's Diver of the Week, round out the list of weekly winners for the week ending Feb. 8.

Garvin brings the Men's Swimmer of the Week hardware to Lewisburg after notching a pair of individual wins in a loss to League foe Lehigh, 157-143, Saturday. The senior opened the meet by winning the 50 freestyle with a 21.46 mark, besting LU's Matt Titko by 0.90 seconds. Garvin pulled out another close win in the 100 freestyle (47.46) where he topped Lehigh's Sean Herman by 0.70 seconds. Garvin was also a member of the gold medal-winning 400 freestyle relay squad (3:12.34) and the second-place 200 medley relay team (1:37.10).

Altman wins Women's Swimmer of the Week accolades after a pair of record-breaking performances in a dual meet win at Lehigh, 196-104. The sophomore broke the Jacobs Natatorium record in the 100 backstroke with a time of 59.49, which was 0.36 seconds quicker than the runner-up. Altman dominated the 200 backstroke with another LU pool record. Her time of 2:06.40 was 4.90 seconds faster than the second-place finisher. Altman also took home gold medals in the 200 medley relay (1:49.86) and the 400 freestyle relay (3:36.53).

Teague takes home his sixth Men's Diver of the Week award this season after dominating the diving events in a non-League loss to Princeton, 170-122. The freshman gained the gold medal in the one-meter event with 336.89 points, which was 90 markers better than the runner-up. In the three-meter dive, Teague surpassed the 300-point plateau with 333.00 tallies. His next closest competitor could only manage 249.97 points.

Haviland claims her seventh Women's Diver of the Week honor this year after sweeping the diving events for the ninth time this season in a loss to Pennsylvania Saturday. The sophomore opened the meet with a season-best 282.45 points in the one-meter event, topping teammate Sarah Get by 20 markers. In the three-meter dive, Haviland earned another season-best effort with 298.57 points, which was 22 tallies better than Get.
