Leane Darling Named WAC Swimmer of the Week

DALLAS, Feb. 10. SMU's Leane Darling has been named the Western Athletic Conference swimming and diving Athlete of the Week. The announcement was made by the league office on Monday. Darling's honor marks the second straight week SMU has been rewarded WAC Athlete of the Week honors. Georgina Lee won the award a week ago for the Ponies.

Darling, a freshman from Boca Raton, Fla. had a stellar weekend leading SMU to victories over Houston and WAC foe Rice. On February 6 against Houston, Darling served as the anchor leg in SMU's opening victory of the night, the 200 medley relay. She went on to take a second place finish in the 100 back.

On February 7 against WAC opponent Rice, Darling dominated, winning two individual events on the day, while serving as the first leg of the Ponies' winning 200 free relay team. Darling won the afternoon's fourth event of the day, the 50 free, with a time of 24.39. Three events later, Darling made her way back into the winning circle once again this time taking the 100 free with a time of 51.85. She capped the night off with her third overall victory of the day, swimming the first leg of the 200 free relay team that finished first with a time of 1:35.64.
