Westminster College Closes Dual Meet Season With Win

NEW WILMINGTON, Penn., February 1. THE Westminster College men's and women's swimming teams each concluded their 2003-04 dual meet seasons on a winning note today in Berea, Ohio, as the Titans and Lady Titans each rolled to non-conference victories at Baldwin-Wallace College. The Titan men (7-1 overall, 2-0 Presidents' Athletic Conference) posted a 113-90 decision over the Yellow Jackets, while the Lady Titans (6-2, 2-0 PAC) recorded a 120-82 victory over their B-W counterparts.

Leading the way for the men was freshman Pat Smith (South Park/South Park H.S.), who was the lone Titan to post a pair of individual wins as he captured both the 500 (5:02.13) and 1000 (10:27.08) free style events. Classmate Ryan Trunk (Brookline, MA/Cheshire Academy H.S.) also touched first in a pair of events, winning the 200 freestyle (1:48.20) while anchoring the winning 400 freestyle relay team (3:24.20).

A pair of Lady Titans were triple winners against B-W. Senior Brittany Jardine (Allison Park/North Allegheny H.S.) captured both the 100 butterfly (1:00.64) and 200 individual medley (2:17.18) while anchoring the victorious 400 freestyle relay team (3:46.63). Freshman Sara Bonchosky (Uniontown/Laurel Highlands H.S.) also was a member of the winning 400 free relay team while also posting the top time in both the 100 (56.21) and 200 (2:00.64) freestyle events. The Westminster men's and women's swimming teams return to action when they each defend their 2003 team titles at the 2004 Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) Swimming & Diving Championships, which will be hosted by Grove City College on Thursday-Saturday, Feb. 12-14, 2004.
