Margaret Hoelzer Named SEC Women’s Swimmer of the Week

AUBURN, Ala, January 27. FOR the third consecutive week the Auburn swimming team produced a Southeastern Conference Athlete of the Week as junior Margaret Hoelzer was named the Women's Swimmer of the Week following the No. 1-ranked Tigers' dual meet victory over No. 3-ranked Florida, the conference office announced on Tuesday.

Hoelzer won two individual events and swam on a winning relay in the long course-meters dual meet win over the Gators. She swam the fly leg of the winning 400 medley relay in a time of 1:00.47 and returned to the pool two events later to win the 200 free in a time of 2:03.18, lowering her season-best time by .76 seconds. Hoelzer closed out her meet with a first-place finish in the 200 fly in a time of 2:14.75, which was a 1.65 second drop from her previous season-best, set last weekend against Southern California.

This is the second time in her career that Hoelzer has been named the SEC Athlete of the Week as the Huntsville product also earned the honor during the 2002-03 national championship season following the Alabama dual meet.

The defending NCAA Champion men's and women's squads have now produced two men's and two women's SEC Athletes of the Week this season as Eric Shanteau and Steven Segerlin were honored in each of the previous two weeks, respectively, and Kirsty Coventry was named last week.
