Lady Bulldogs Bite Texas, 169-126

AUSTIN, Texas, January 18. THE Lady Bulldogs remained undefeated with a 169-126 decision over Texas on Saturday afternoon at the Lee and Joe Jamail Swimming Center. The second-ranked Georgia squad boasted top times in 12 of the 16 events, taking first in six of the first seven races.

"We would like to go undefeated during the dual meet season, and the win
today gave us a good chance to do that," said Bauerle. "We still have
some challenges ahead, but I think we will be up for the task."

Even winners featured the usual cast of characters: Samantha Arsenault
(400m free), Laura Conway (1500m free), Mary DeScenza (200m free, 100m
fly, 200m fly), Sarah Poewe (100m breast, 200m breast), Kara Lynn Joyce
(50m free, 100m free), and Katie Yevak (200m IM). Georgia also posted
the top times in both the 200m medley and 400m free relays.

"This was a great meet," said Georgia head coach Jack Bauerle. "We are
very fortunate to beat a very fine team like Texas. It is not easy coming
into a place against a group that tough. Texas is very tough in the medley
relay and we beat them head-to-head, and we were really rolling after that.

"Mary and Kara Lynn were spectacular, combining for five individual
wins and two relay wins," added Bauerle. "Mary may be swimming better than ever right now."

The squads return home for their final regular-season meets this coming
weekend. The Georgia men will be back in action Friday, Jan. 23, as
they face SEC rival Tennessee at home, while the women will take on
Arkansas and SMU on Saturday, Jan. 24. A brief ceremony recognizing the
seniors will take place before each meet.
