Titan Men Post Historic 300th Win as Westminster Swimming Teams Sweep Allegheny

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa., Jan. 17. THE Westminster College men's and women's swimming teams each posted non-conference victories today in dual meets againt Allegheny College at the Natatorium. The Titan men improved to a perfect 5-0 on the season with a 108-73 victory over the Gators, while the Lady Titans improved to 4-1 with a 102-81 decision over their Allegheny counterparts.

The men's win was a historic one for Westminster, as it marked the 300th dual meet victory in the history of the Titan men's swimming program. The program has an all-time record of 300-235-1 (.561) since the school began keeping dual meet records in 1941-42.

For the men, three Titans were double winners. Freshman Ryan Trunk (Brookline, MA/Cheshire Academy H.S.) led the way with individual wins in the 100 (50.38) and 200 freestyle (1:49.22) events. Sophomores Josh Hensler (Pittsburgh/South Park H.S.) and Nate Horrell (Ligonier/Ligonier Valley H.S.) both swam a leg on the winning 200 medley relay team
(1:42.09) while also posting individual wins. Hensler captured the 200 individual medley (2:05.76), while Horrell was victorious in the 100 butterfly (56.27).

For the Lady Titans, senior Brittany Jardine (Allison Park/North Allegheny H.S.) led the way with wins in all three of her events. Jardine captured both the 50 freestyle (25.99) and 100 butterfly (1:01.23) while swimming the anchor leg for the winning 200 freestyle relay team (1:47.97). The other Lady Titan to post a pair of individual wins was freshman Sara Bonchosky (Uniontown/Laurel Highlands H.S.), who won both the 100 (56.11) and 200 freestyle (2:01.45).

The Westminster men's and women's swimming teams return to action tomorrow (Sat., Jan. 17) as the Titans and Lady Titans travel to Pittsburgh for a non-conference meet with nationally-ranked Carnegie Mellon University at 1 p.m.
