2008 Olympics: China Eyes It

Five years after its bitter defeat to Sydney in the race for the 2000 Olympics, China looks ready to bid for 2008. IOC president Juan Antonio Samaranch has encouraged a Chinese bid since Beijing lost to Sydney by two votes in 1993. Human rights groups, especially in the United States, opposed the bid.
