Hawaii Sweeps Three Meets

HONOLULU – The University of Hawai`i men and women's swimming and diving squads competed in a double dual meet against Oregon State (women), Cincinnati, Dartmouth (men), and Northwestern (women) tonight, at the Duke Kahanamoku Aquatics Complex. Both squads defeated all four schools. The women knocked off Oregon State, 68-34, Cincinnati, 71-15, and Northwestern, 56-30. The men posted victories over Dartmouth, 79-15, and Cincinnati, 56-39.

At the conclusion of the meet, the Rainbow Wahine improved their dual meet record to 11-2, while the men increased to 10-3 in dual meets for the season.

On the women's side, the 200 Medley Relay (1:44.60) team of YingJuan Zhen, Nicole Mackey, Katie Clewett, and Dena Quick got the scoring underway immediately as they swam to finish the event first, while also recording the season-best mark on the UH squad.

Mia Broden shinned tonight in the 100 Fly (55.03), as she notched the top spot in the event. Her finishing time also earned her the 2nd all-time best at UH, an NCAA provisional standard, and the season-best time on the squad.

On the men's side, numerous first place finishes were turned in, scoring additional points for the team. Cheyne Bloch won the 200 IM (1:52.38) and the 100 Breast (55.62). Kurt Boehm touched the wall in the lead in the 200 Free (1:40.00) and the 100 Fly (50.39).

Up next for the Rainbow Warriors and Wahine is the Aileen Soule Sprint meet, slated for Jan. 2 at the Duke Kahanamoku Aquatics Complex. The Rainbow Invite will follow on Jan. 3. The meets get underway at 3 p.m. and 9 a.m., respectively. The Hawai`i Diving Invitational has been moved up one week, to Jan. 10-11.
