Texas Divers Sweep Big 12 Monthly Honors

AUSTIN, Tex, December 1. THE University of Texas swept the Big 12 Conference Diver of the Month honors for November, the league office announced over the weekend, as junior All-American Nicole Pohorenec (Winter Springs, Fla.) and sophomore Mark Shattuck (Derby, United Kingdom) were honored as the Female and Male Divers of the Month, respectively.

Pohorenec, the 2003 Big 12 Conference Diver of the Year and a World University Games participant, earned the second Diver of the Month honor of her career after leading Texas to a 176-124 victory over SMU on Nov. 8. The Winter Springs, Fla., native recorded a first-place finish on the one-meter springboard with a score of 260.40 and then added a runner-up finish on the three-meter with a mark of 283.35. An All-American on the platform, Pohorenec also earned Diver of the Month honors last December after placing first on the platform (457.20) at the Texas Invitational.

Shattuck earned the first Big 12 Diver of the Month award of his career after leading second-ranked Texas to a 227-221 victory over sixth-ranked Michigan at Canham Natatorium on Nov. 15. Shattuck's victories on the one- and three-meter springboard were critical in Texas' come-from-behind victory as the Longhorns trailed 207-186 heading into the final three events. After posting a first-place finish on the one-meter with a score of 358.50, Shattuck added a victorious score of 359.10 on the three-meter in one of the final competitions of the meet.
