Minnesota Men Sweep Big Ten Weekly Swimming and Diving Honors

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn, November 6. THE Big Ten Conference has announced that two Golden Gophers swept the weekly conference awards for their performances last week against No. 6 Florida and Northwestern. Sophomore Adam Mitchell received the Big Ten Swimmer of the Week, while senior diver Ben Herdt was named the Big Ten Diver of the Week.

Mitchell posted four individual first-place finishes, while gaining a second-place finish last week. In the dual against Florida, Mitchell recorded a top time of 1:50.16 in the 200 individual medley, while adding a personal best time in the 200 back. His 200 back time of 1:46.79 provisionally qualified him for NCAA Championships.

He followed his Florida performance with a provisional qualifying time of :48.81 in the 100 back and won the 200 back against Northwestern. Mitchell also donned first place as a member of the 200 medley relay team to help Minnesota to a 203-95 win.

Herdt notched two wins in both diving events against Northwestern in addition to a second and third-place finish in the dual against the Gators. He posted scores of 301.70 on the 1-meter and 277.8 in the 3-meter event against Florida. Herdt went on to post a 294.45 score on the 1-meter and a 319.05 on the 3-meter against the Wildcats.
