NCAA Div III: Cumberland College Swimming Opens Season with Two Victories

WILLIAMSBURG, Kent., October 19. IN Division III action, the Cumberland College men and women's swimming teams started their seasons at home with victories over Asbury College on Saturday. The men's team won by a score of 63-16 while the women's team finished with a score of 70 -22.

First place finishers for the Patriot Men were: Ian Wenstrand in the 1000 free with a time of 11:00.00 flat and also in the 100 back with a time of 57.50. Tyler Morris won the 200 free with a time of 1:58.19 and also won the 100 free with a time of 54.04.

Jeremy Stephenson placed first in the 500 free with a time of 5:23.51 and Daniel McCord won the 50 free with a time of 23.50. Aaron McCormick and Duncan Mackie were also first place finishers for the men with in the 100 fly with a time of 59.41 and the 100 breast with a time of 1:07.50, respectively.

The Patriot ladies also made a great showing with six first place finishes. Team captain, Tasha Perry, won the 200 free with a time of 1:58.76 and also the 100 back with a time of 1:01.27. Raven Maples placed first in the 50 free with a time of 26.22 and also won the 100 free with a time of 57.06. In the 100 breast, freshman Lane Royer placed first with a time of 1:16.55.

Head Coach Garry Nelson commented, "This is our first event of the year and we had a good meet. We will continue to build on the success throughout the rest of the season. I am proud of our double winners, freshmen, Tyler Morris and Ian Wenstrand, and also returners, captain Tasha Perry and Raven Maples."

The Patriot swim team will be back in action on October 28th when they travel to compete in the University of Kentucky Relays.
