Matthew McVittie Named South Carolina Assistant

COLUMBIA, S.C., August 26. THE University of South Carolina has announced the hiring of Matthew McVittie as assistant swimming coach for the men’s and women’s teams.

McVittie comes to USC after serving the past
three years as one of the head coaches for the Kamehameha Swim Club in Honolulu, Hawaii. As head coach he directed a comprehensive program of over 180 swimmers with abilities ranging from novice to Senior National Finalists. His team won three consecutive state championships.

I'm very excited to be a part of the Gamecock family and coaching staff and I see a very bright future in this swim program," stated McVittie.

As an athlete at Florida State University, McVittie served as team captain his senior year and achieved the
highest honors both in the classroom and the pool. A four-year All-American and Olympic Trials qualifier for
the Seminoles, McVittie also garnered Academic All-ACC honors in 1998 and 1999. At FSU, current USC head coach Donald Gibb coached him.

McVittie was born on March 22, 1977 in Chelsea, Mich., where his parents Pat and Peter still reside.

McVittie was a member of the Chelsea High School men's swimming and diving team, where he received All-American honors four years in a row. As a member of the United States Swimming program, he trained at both
the Ann Arbor Swim Club and under Jon Urbancheck and Jim Richardson at Club Wolverine.
