Whitney Myers Stars at Speedo Central Sectional 3 Meet

BLOOMINGTON, Ind., July 30. OHIO Mako's Whitney Myers was every bit the pool shark this weekend at the Speedo Champions Series Central Section 3 Meet, held in Bloomington, Indiana.

The Arizona-bound swimmer blasted to three meet record wins in times that bode well for superb performances at August's Summer Nationals. Myers swam to dominating wins in the 100 (1:01.02) and 200 (2:13.71) butterflys, as well as the 200 IM (2:18.71).

In addition to all three times being meet and Counsilman Aquatic Center records, naturally, they were all Olympic Trials standards as well. Interestingly enough, Myers did not swim the 200 freestyle, one of the two events where she holds the state high school record (the other being the 100 butterfly).

Alyssa Kiel, distance ace at Lake Erie Silver Dolphins, swam to wins in two 'off' events, taking the 200 free in 2:04.13 before notching an Olympic Trials standard of 4:54.69. In her absence, her 15 year-old teammate Margot Brooks took the opportunity to break Kiel's meet and pool record in the 800 free (8:48.56), with a time of 8:48.48, winning by nearly five seconds in addition to qualifying for next summer's Olympic Trials.

Stroke specialists notched wins in both distances , as Erin Forster took the 100 (1:05.05) and 200 (2:20.08) back, while Justine Mueller took the 100 (1:14.11) and 200 (2:37.15) breaststrokes, the latter of which was a pool and meet record as well.

Men's action saw a lone swimmer qualify for Olympic Trials, as Indiana's Nick Cenci was the class of the field in the men's 200 butterfly (2:02.70), but a number of swimmers notched multiple wins overall.

Most victorious was Indiana's Brian Hartley, who hit a trifecta, taking wins in the 100 (58.09), 200 (2:05.79) backstrokes, and 200 IM (2:09.33).

Overall, swimmers dominated their specialties. Sprinter Tommy Seay won both the 50 (24.07) and 100 (52.57) freestyles.

Middle distance specialist Jason Vadney took the 200 (1:53.93) and 400 (4:01.32) freestyles, while John Koehler took the 800 (8:22.29) and 1500 (15:55.79) in pool record times.

Breaststroke specialist Chris Ash won the 100 in 1:05.74 before also taking the 200 breast (2:20.39) in meet and pool record time.
