Fratesi Out-Duels Warden in 200 Back on Day 4 of Canadian Trials; Reimer Wins 4th Event

VICTORIA, B.C., Canada, June 29. JENNIFER Fratesi out-duelled 200 IM champ, Liz Warden, in the 200 backstroke to highlight Day 4 action at the Canadian World Championship Trials in Victoria.

Fratesi touched in 2:13.15 to Warden's 2:13.42 as both women bettered the qualifying standard for the World championships.

Fifteen year-old Brittany Reimer concontinued her march through the Canadian middle-distance and distance events by winning the 800 free, thus completing her sweep of the 200, 400, 800 and 1500 meter events.

Reimer clocked 8:36.38, just off the Canadian recordset the year she was born (but a WC cut nonetheless), and easily defeated Taryn Lencoe (8:44.07), who battled her stroke-for-stroke in yesterday's 1500. Reimer will leave Victoria with four wins and national records in the 400 and 1500 meters. And a very bright future!

In other women's events, Laura Nicholls took the 100 free in 56.72 and Lauren Van Oosten won the 200 breast in 2:30.96.

On the men's side, Mike Mintenko took the 100 fly in 53.34, Keith Beavers was the victor in the 200 back (2:00.58) and Matt Rose won the 50 free (22.96).
