Aussie Olympian Phil Rogers Retires

SYDNEY, June 21. Thirty-two year-old Phil Rogers, who won Olympic bronze for Australia in the 100-meter breaststroke at Barcelona in 1992, announced his retirement from swimming today during a Grand Prix meet at the Sydney International Aquatic Center.

Rogers, who made his debut in the Australian team at the 1989 Pan Pacific championships in Tokyo, was part of three Australian Olympic teams. He also won an Australian medley relay bronze at the Atlanta Olympics in 1996.

"The decision to retire has been brewing for about the last six weeks and finally the light came on last weekend," he said.
